Fellow bus brothers and sisters,,
I hope all of you are having a great winter! Julie and I are looking forward to seeing everyone at Bus Brrr, however we need some help getting our van there. My van has been starting hard when cold for a while and this has recently advanced to an intermittent extreme rich running condition. I have done a pretty thorough inspection of the injection and ignition system and have come up empty handed. I was wondering if anyone out there has a known good ECU for a Federal model air cooled 82 Vanagon that I could swap into my van. These things run about $500 and I would like to verify this is the problem before shelling out that kind of $$. You can contact me back channel.
Thanks a ton for your help! Jake and Julie jbeaulie@nd.edu South Bend, IN

Hi Jake and Julie, I think Al at Fun Buggies has an old aircooled vanagon in the back that if you come up to Grand Rapids we can pull it out and try it on yours. If not you can buy it from him and try it. Let me know if you need my help. I can go grab it for you. Are you coming to Bus Brrr? Todd

Hey Todd,
Thanks for the offer. Scott came over last week and we opened up the ECU and resoldered all the connections. Nothing looked too bad, so we are not thinking the ECU is the problem. Unfortunatley, I managed to mess up the spark plug threads in one cyliner the same night so the engine is now on my garage floor awaiting a heli coil. I may take you up on the ECU offer later, but first I need to get spark plugs back into the thing. I hope to get the van running for Bus Brrr, but if not I think Julie and I may come out and stay at the hotel in the park.
C-ya, Jake "n" Julie
